The Big 5 - 0!

This is ColorForm 50! It is 18"H x 19"W.  I enjoy making quilts in this series. Making small ones like this is a good way to practice for the bigger ones, and discover ways to connect shapes.

Art on the Wall

There are people who don't think of fiber art as something to put on their walls. I like to put my newest quilt up on our dining room wall, so I can look at it for awhile until the next one comes along. I have a hanging rod that I can slip it into, which makes it easy to change from one to another. But sometimes that is too high, and I have to measure and hang it lower. I love the fall colors on this one, and the lavender too!

Found in my closet!

I know with a title like that you are going to think my closet is a mess or that I am not organized! But sometimes when I get towards the end of a piece, I am anxious to get on to a new idea, and I think that is what happened with this. I also felt I needed to put it away and look at it with fresh eyes. These shapes balance on each other, yet they are each a strong shape on their own. There are sections of machine stitching that go different directions which are fun to look at up close or farther away. The curves in the stitching is a contrast to the big shapes and straight lines. This is Green x 3, 46"H x 43"W.

Summer's End

Summer has flown by so fast, as it always does. To me, fall is the beginning of the year, and I am looking forward to a visit with new friends, a fabric dyeing class and a visit with grandchildren. Now that I am home I was able to finish another work, based on the connection of shapes. I love orange, and in this piece used one of my bleach pen fabrics as a focal point. But it is the placement of the squares, where they sit and how they interact with each other that always has me intrigued. This is ColorForm 48, 38"H x 42"W.

Simple and Small

I have been working on some new ColorForm pieces-I love incorporating some of the bleach pen fabrics I have made. It is fun to try it on different colors and see what happens. If I am not that crazy about the results, I have been using that fabric for my labels on the back of the quilt.
This one is ColorForm 43, which is 16"H x 21"W. I love the colors on this one, but really, my favorite part is the grey, with the black square.

Something old, something new

I was reorganizing some of my quilts, and found this one rolled up from 2007 - one of my early quilts. It must have been from when I took a Nancy Crow workshop. I always loved working with those lines. The next one I finished recently. This one I had made a few months ago, put in my closet, and forgot about it. Now I want to try some new ideas I have for quilting. Having been to some quilt shows recently, I notice how people often peer up close to a quilt-so maybe I should have more for them to see!

More Bags from Quilts

Here are 3 of the bags I have been making! I added straps to 2 of them so far-they are adjustable. I have ordered more nylon strapping-I think the middle one will look great with a gray strap. I am plugging away at machine quilting, but once in a while need a break, and work on my bag project.

Quilts to bags

I have always loved making things. When we were little, my sister and I made my Mom a tablecloth, napkins and napkins rings for Mother's Day. We used cardboard tubes and covered them with red tissue paper and mod podge for the napkin rings. Since then, I have made cards, scarves, cowls, necklaces,, pj pants and journals-among many others. Recently I have tried to scale down on crafts, and have gotten rid of a lot of the supplies I have  so I don't take too much time away from making quilts. But I still enjoy making bags and purses of all kinds. I have made them out of men's ties, burlap coffee bean bags, linen, canvas and strips of silk. Last week I had a brainstorm as I thought of how I could make a cover for my new sewing machine- I used an old quilt. We'll, not old, just a quilt I was willing to give up. I have several quilts that measure 3'x4' and when cut in half are just the right size to cover a sewing machine. But as I turned it upside down, it makes a perfect bag! And I am on my way with this new idea-I have cut up several old quilts and they are making terrific bags-I should really save 2 for my sewing machines!

I still have straps to add-I'll post picture when they are done!

Small to Big

This is one of my small ColorForm quilts that are 8 x 10". Now I am going big with this series. The sewing line has become more important-not as straight! I just love the big shapes! I am trying to fill my design wall with them-(I am trying not to wish for a bigger wall)

New Art Quilt

I am trying some new ColorForm quilts, in a bigger size. This one is 33" H x 66"W. I decided my challenge would be to use yellow, a color I hardly ever use. As I went along designing this quilt, I kept finding the yellow was missing! I had to keep adding it-and I am having fun adding fabrics with more texture I have been finding in my dyed fabrics.

Squared: 8

I love to combine shapes to make new shapes! This quilt is 34"W x 27"H. I got a new laptop, and love the feature where you can keep "notes". I kept a picture of some shapes I had put up on my design wall, and wanted to work more with the idea of using one color, and making shapes.

ColorForm 29

This is one of the 8"x10" ColorForm quilts I have made-I mount them on stretched canvas, which makes them easy to hang. I have made 8 of them-they are a nice bit of color in a dreary winter.
